Maine's outdoor heritage was built by people.

By the guides who spent their lives on remote waters.  By the writers and publishers who introduced generations of sportsmen to Maine's woods and waters. By the conservationists, manufacturers, artists, advocates, and ordinary men and women whose accomplishments helped shape the outdoor traditions we know today.

 

Too many of their stories are disappearing.

 

The Maine Outdoor Hall of Fame was created to change that.

Fact is, long term projections point to a national downward trend in overall numbers of licensed hunters and fisherman. Thankfully, Maine bucks that trend and continues to embrace its sporting heritage. However, a decades long general shift away from historical cultural identity, Maine's sporting heritage history is slowly being lost to time. 

 

Our mission is simple: to identify and honor positive contributors to Maine's outdoor heritage and culture—and to ensure that their accomplishments are not forgotten.

 

We're building this organization from the ground up, with the goal of creating a permanent institution dedicated to preserving and celebrating the people who helped make Maine's outdoor tradition what it is today.

 

And we're asking you to help us build it.

 

Our operating costs are intentionally modest. That means your contribution goes a long way toward helping us research and document Maine's outdoor history, recognize deserving individuals, develop the Hall of Fame, and eventually bring this work to the public through events and an annual induction celebration. Right now, we operate entirely digitally, which means low operational costs. However, the need to preserve this history in a more permanent manner comes at a great cost. We are continually acquiring items of great historical significance, dedicating our time and resources to extensive research, and planning for our next major milestone-a fully interactive digital museum where stories will be shared, and legacies guarded in perpetuity.
